Fictional Short Stories
Short stories are perfect conveyors of message. Short stories have developed across various genres throughout human history - science fiction, horror, romance, fantasy, and mystery. Stories possess a source of power, uniting our emotions in transformative ways.
Short stories may be written in any style or genre. Submitted works will be graded on the unity of effect and narrations with strong messages that include an environmental issue either directly or indirectly.
Non-Fiction Essays
Essays encourage the reader to eavesdrop on the writer's ruminations, taking a look at the writer’s attempts to share his or her personal experiences. In this competition, the essay should be based on a personal memoir or a true story. The judges will not expect any journalistic or academic essays - rather, personal reflections that display each student’s own experience and observations related to environmental issues are encouraged.
Poetry
Write a poem that explores the impact of environmental issues on our world. Consider the interconnectedness of ecosystems, the consequences of human actions on the environment, and the importance of preserving the natural world for future generations. Whether you choose to focus on climate change, pollution, deforestation, or any other environmental issue, use your words to evoke a sense of urgency and inspire readers to take action.
